U.S. Demopolis Land Office - Receivers' registers of certificates, 1833-1860.

District land office Receivers were responsible for all financial transactions relating to the sales of public land. They issued receipts when land was purchased and when payments were made. Once all payments were completed a final certificate was issued to the purchaser. Receivers' registers of certificates contain records of certificates issued by the Receiver. The volumes vary over time and include some printed forms. Generally entries include the following information: date, number of certificate, purchasers name and county of residence, location of the tract, number of acres, price per acre, and amount of purchase money. Some volumes also include the date on which the patent was issued. These records document the business aspects of public land sales, the work of the Receiver of Public Monies and provide information on purchasers. This series includes entries for 1833-1834, 1836-1837 and 1858-1860.
